At our first coalition meeting, where 30 people gathered on a wintry February evening in 2011, someone posed a good question. “Are we focused mainly on gardening, or are we really just trying to get kids to spend time, get more comfortable and to learn outside?”
Our answer? All of the above.
The Grass Roots | Outdoor Wonder Coalition is a collective of advocates, parents, teachers, youth, family members and community educators who promote outdoor learning in and around Madison, Wisconsin. We are working at the “grass roots” to ensure that kids and families have the opportunity to cultivate their sense of wonder about the natural world.
This site provides a place to learn about our plans and actions. We’ll also post a lot a pictures and stories, too. Who knows? You may even recapture your own sense of wonder in the process.
